A new Bundestag is to be elected in less than three months, but election posters remain taboo in Saxony's major cities for the time being. In Leipzig, Chemnitz and Dresden, no such posters may yet be put up, the city councils announced on request. Please refer to local election advertising crews.
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has announced that he will call a vote of confidence in the Bundestag on December 11, with a vote to be held on December 16. If he loses the vote as expected, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier can dissolve the Bundestag within three weeks. The plan is to elect a new parliament on February 23. However, Steinmeier has not yet set a date.
If February 23 is confirmed as election day, the free special usage period for election advertising will begin on January 11 - six weeks before election day, the city of Leipzig informed us on request. This means that there will be no posters around Christmas markets during the Christmas period. There is similar news from Chemnitz. Posters are only permitted there seven weeks before the election at the earliest.
