Michael Preuß is the new mayor of Kamenz. The 44-year-old non-party candidate received 73.4 percent of the vote in the first round of voting after a preliminary count on Sunday. His only opponent, Stefan Seibt from the citizens' alliance "Miteinander für Kamenz" (Together for Kamenz), received 26.6 percent. Preuß succeeds Roland Dantz (non-party), who did not run again after 21 years.
Preuß was born in Kamenz and studied architecture and urban planning at university after training as a carpenter and furniture maker and completing his vocational baccalaureate. Since 2021, he has been Head of Building and Urban Development in the town of just under 17,000 inhabitants.
