Left Party aims for double-digit result in 2029 state elections

"In the super election year 2029, we want to be strongly represented in local councils in all districts and independent cities again - to achieve this, we want to more than double the number of local mandates," the party announced. In the 2029 state elections, the party will be fighting for direct mandates in Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz. "We are running with the ambition of reaching double digits in every constituency and taking responsibility for a solidary, anti-fascist Saxony."

In the 2024 state election, the Left Party achieved its worst result to date with a second vote result of just 4.5 percent. However, as they won two direct mandates in Leipzig, they were still able to enter parliament as a parliamentary group. The party has recently experienced strong growth in membership. With a good 11,300 members, it is now once again the largest party in the Free State. According to its own figures, the party grew by more than 4,400 members in 2025.
