CDU loses members and remains significantly older
Last summer, the Left Party overtook the CDU, which currently has around 8,700 members, according to a spokesperson. The average age of the Christian Democrats is 59 - the highest in comparison. According to the figures, the number of members fell by around 700 last year, mainly because many older members passed away.
The third largest party is the Greens with more than 5,300 members - an increase of 700 supporters. This is a provisional figure; according to a spokesperson, the number is likely to increase after applications have been reviewed. On average, the Saxon Greens are 56.6 years old.
