The CDU federal party conference has elected a new group of deputy chairpersons and increased the number of posts by one to six. The best result as deputy to party leader Friedrich Merz was achieved in Stuttgart by Karl-Josef Laumann, Minister of Social Affairs in North Rhine-Westphalia, with 769 votes. Hessian parliamentary group leader Ines Claus was elected for the first time as federal deputy with 657 votes. A total of 862 valid votes were cast.
Saxony's Minister-President Michael Kretschmer was confirmed as deputy leader with 757 votes, CDU/CSU parliamentary group deputy leader Andreas Jung from Baden-Württemberg with 667 votes, State Secretary for Agriculture Silvia Breher from Lower Saxony with 662 votes and Federal Education Minister Karin Prien with 604 votes.
