Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) believes the minority government of the CDU and SPD is on the right track. "Our government has started with strength," he said following the cabinet meeting in Dresden. It consists of two parties and personalities with a great deal of experience. This had also ensured that they were successful.
The consultation mechanism was an attempt to provide the new reality of a minority government with rules for reliable cooperation, said the Prime Minister. "It is important that we keep reviewing this instrument and questioning how it can be improved." It doesn't have to be, but it can be an example for others. Success depends on the people who are responsible.
Kretschmer praises the Left
Kretschmer expressed his appreciation to the opposition parties involved for their attitude of cooperating and putting their own interests second when it comes to the good of the country. He had words of praise for the Left Party in particular: "I am very pleased that the Left Party has found a role for itself as a constructive opposition party that critically accompanies the government, but also supports it in areas where it is necessary for the Free State." The Greens and BSW had also repeatedly worked together in recent months.
Köpping: Not always easy
Petra Köpping, deputy head of government and Minister of Health, also drew a positive interim balance. The SPD politician said that the government had shown that it stands for stability. "Together with the opposition parties, we have proven that compromises and majorities are still possible." However, it is not always easy, but also laborious and exhausting, "because we don't just have to bring two partners together, but four and at best even five".
