Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) believes that the idea of an international building exhibition in Leipzig's New Lakeland makes sense. He said after a cabinet meeting in Bad Lausick that he was pleased that "not only small buns are being baked" in the Leipzig region. Such an exhibition would be a turbo and a new opportunity. It could show how new life is being breathed back into post-mining landscapes.
Kretschmer: Saxony has a lot to offer when it comes to structural change
"I believe that this is indeed a topic where we have a lot to offer," said Kretschmer. This topic is also very much connected to the people of the region. It is not about "landing somewhere with a spaceship" and doing something, but about focusing on the concerns and identity of the people. The government's understanding of politics is based on this. Cabinet meetings abroad offer the opportunity to delve deeper into a region and its problems.
County councillor points to constantly growing social expenditure
County councillor Henry Graichen (CDU) noted a considerable divergence between growing social expenditure and the income of the counties. They now have a deficit in the three-digit million range. The burden is increasing by nine percent annually, 60 percent of the district budget is social expenditure. Even with a slight increase in tax revenue, they would no longer be able to act. The gap will continue to widen, which is why a readjustment is needed.
The cabinet met on Tuesday in the rooms of the Saxon Wind Academy and was also serenaded.
