Kamenz wants to push ahead with urban development with the help of new European funding. Mayor Dantz is grateful for the support.

Kamenz is receiving four million euros for the development of disadvantaged urban districts. The funds come from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through which the city has already received funding, as announced by the Ministry for Regional Development. State Secretary Barbara Meyer presented Mayor Roland Dantz with the new funding decision on Wednesday. "With the new funding, which is co-financed by the Free State of Saxony, the city can now overcome further urban development, ecological, demographic and social deficits and upgrade the belt north-east of the historic old town," she said according to the press release.

In concrete terms, the city wants to further develop the area of the old municipal swimming pool and the Jahnsportplatz and is planning a green district center in Kamenz-Ost. Dantz expressed his gratitude for the funding. "The integration of the Jahnsportplatz into the overall 'leisure park' concept will significantly improve living conditions for both younger and older people," he said. This is only possible because the town has been receiving financial support from the European Union, the Free State and the federal government for years. Previously, the renovation of the Lessinggymnasium and the integration of the municipal library had already received funding in Kamenz.

In addition to Kamenz, the Free State and the EU are supporting 38 other Saxon municipalities through the "Sustainable Integrated Urban Development ERDF 2021-2027" funding program. The aim of the funding is to overcome social, economic and ecological problems and to upgrade urban districts that are at a significant disadvantage in terms of development. A total of 196.5 million euros is available from EU and state funds.
