Jörg Urban remains party leader of the AfD in Saxony for another two years. The 61-year-old was confirmed in office at a state party conference in Löbau with 76.5 percent of the vote. This is the worst result he has achieved since taking over the state chairmanship in 2018. In his last election in Glauchau in 2024, he achieved a good 91%.
Urban, a graduate engineer in hydraulic engineering, has been a member of the AfD state parliament in Dresden since 2014 and has led the parliamentary group since October 2017. In 2018, he took over the chairmanship of the Saxon state association for the first time, which currently has almost 4,300 members.
Urban called on party members to show professionalism and unity. This is the only way to fight successfully "in these turbulent times". "The more successful we are, the more attacks our opponents will launch."
