The Greens want better support for theaters in the Free State. In a position paper published on Thursday, their state parliamentary group proposes, in addition to a short-term increase in state funding, an understanding with the municipal sponsors of theaters on long-term and stabilizing funding. The financial situation of the houses is up-to-date "more than precarious", explained the delegate Claudia Maicher. Several theaters are currently sending out cries for help, she said. The goal is a dynamic adjustment of the theater and orchestra financing to the cost development in common responsibility of Free State and municipalities.
"We Alliance Greens take the threatening situation of the theaters very seriously. If Saxonia does not act now, many mechanisms threaten soon the dismantling of personnel and whole sections. We must not simply put the future of our theaters at risk," said Maicher. The municipal theaters would contribute significantly to cultural participation and quality of life in the regions of the state. "They have an indispensable social value. That is why we must maintain diverse local theater and orchestra offerings in such a way that they can continue to develop in line with the times, create programs that are close to the people and appeal to a broad audience. This is only possible if they remain financially viable."
