NRW Minister of Family Affairs Josefine Paul and the former Saxon Minister of Justice and current member of the state parliament Katja Meier (both Greens) have married. This was confirmed to dpa by a spokesperson for the Ministry for Children, Youth, Family, Equality, Refugees and Integration (MKJFGFI) in Düsseldorf. The newsletter "Politik in Sachsen" and "Landtagsblog.de" had previously reported on the wedding.
The MKJFGFI spokesperson told dpa: "Minister Josefine Paul and former Minister of State Katja Meier got married in a civil ceremony in Vienna on Tuesday, July 15. Both politicians had previously spoken publicly about their wedding plans and emphasized that, as a lesbian couple in political leadership positions, they also act as role models, especially for young people."
Paul (43) and Meier (45) had previously met on the board of the Federal Women's Council of the Green Party and have been a couple since 2018. They made their wedding plans public in April 2024.
