The Corona Investigation Committee of the Saxon State Parliament wants to hear the virologist Christian Drosten this Friday. The 52-year-old professor is the director of the Institute of Virology at Charité in Berlin and was an expert in the pandemic on whose advice politicians also relied heavily.
The committee of inquiry was set up at the instigation of the AfD parliamentary group. It is to critically examine the work of the Saxon government in connection with the coronavirus in the period from 2019 to 2024. Since the start of the pandemic in Saxony in March 2020, around 17,750 people have died here due to Covid-19.
The committee of inquiry had already summoned virologists Hendrik Streeck, Detlev Krüger and Alexander Kekulé. Kekulé had criticized the mandatory vaccination and crisis communication in particular. Many of the instructions were contradictory, he said, among other things. This had led to a loss of basic trust among the population.
