The city of Dresden wants to speed up housing construction by simplifying the application process. In a newly created "Building Application Commission for Housing Construction", the responsible authorities are to work together to find solutions on how applications can be approved, the municipality announced. Until now, monument, environmental and building authorities have often assessed projects differently.
"Dresden is a growing city, according to current forecasts we will crack the 600,000 population mark by 2040. We already have a need for around 10,000 new apartments," emphasized Building Mayor Stephan Kühn (Greens). Building in Dresden should be attractive. "Fast approval procedures are an important contribution to this." The new commission is to deal with construction projects of 30 apartments or more.
According to the city, delayed statements from the specialist departments, rejections, partial rejections and divergent opinions have slowed down the approval process so far. The offices must now ensure that their comments are submitted to the building inspectorate within one month. The Chamber of Architects hopes that digital building applications will also be possible in future.
