The dispute over a ban on advertising for the German Armed Forces in Zwickau is entering a new round. Mayor Constance Arndt (Citizens for Zwickau) has lodged an objection to the city council's decision of January 30. The council will now discuss the issue again in a special meeting on February 27.
The decision is unlawful and detrimental to the city, explained Arndt. It would not only lead to lower revenue. She referred to the rental of advertising space and trade fairs in which the Bundeswehr takes part. It could also damage the image of the city. Numerous critical comments have been received since the decision was made. "The decision is disadvantageous due to a feared loss of trust with regard to future cooperation with the Bundeswehr." Arndt recalled the help provided by soldiers during floods in the past.
