The third construction section of federal highway 178 in eastern Saxony has been completed. The almost six-kilometer section from Mittelherwigsdorf to Oberseifersdorf will be opened on 25 May with a public celebration, according to the town of Zittau. The town is expecting Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer and Infrastructure Minister Regina Kraushaar as well as a representative from the Federal Ministry of Transport. After the official ribbon cutting, the new road can then be tested for a good two hours on bicycles or inline skates.
The opening of the connection between the new B178 and the existing federal highway is then planned for Monday. This will close an important gap in the axis between the Autobahn 4 and the federal border in the border triangle of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.
