27 Georgians had to leave Saxony - including two criminals. Meanwhile, Saxony's Minister of the Interior brings Leipzig/Halle Airport into play as a possible departure center.

27 Georgians accommodated in Saxony have been deported on a charter flight. A total of 46 Georgian nationals from other federal states were also taken to their home country, according to the Saxon Ministry of the Interior. Two criminals were among those deported from Saxony. The flight departed from Leipzig/Halle on Tuesday.

Saxony's Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) said that the aim was to "end the stay of people without protection status at a high level". "I have brought Leipzig Airport, which is becoming increasingly important for returns, into play with the Federal Minister of the Interior as a central location for the possible creation of a federal departure center."

According to figures from his ministry, there were 213 asylum seekers from Georgia in the reception facilities of the Free State of Saxony in 2025. However, only 0.7 percent of asylum seekers from Georgia are granted protection status by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. Georgia is classified as a safe country of origin.
