The Bundeswehr is testing the dropping of flyers with helium balloons in Upper Lusatia. What the training is for and why Poland and the Czech Republic have also been informed.

From next week, the German Armed Forces will be training the dropping of flyers in Upper Lusatia. They will be dropped with the help of helium balloons. In the event of an emergency, the aim is to inform people who would otherwise be difficult to reach, according to the Saxony State Command. During the exercise from January 25 to February 4, only training leaflets will be dropped, on which a symbol and a text for the finder are printed.

Around 100 soldiers from Mayen in Rhineland-Palatinate will be deployed to Saxony for the training of the Bundeswehr's Operational Communications Center. Because it is also possible that leaflets could drift as far as Poland and the Czech Republic, the neighboring countries have also been informed. Although the leaflets are supposed to arrive at the Oberlausitz military training area, depending on the wind and weather, it is possible that they could deviate from their trajectory and land in the surrounding villages.

If you find a leaflet, you are welcome to report it to the address printed on the leaflets. Incidentally, the paper used is environmentally friendly and decomposes. The exercise "Colder Iron 2026" serves the troops to consolidate their skills, it said.
