The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) is demanding a vote on the debt-financed billion-euro package for defense and infrastructure in the Saxon state parliament. The minority government needs democratic legitimacy for its voting behavior in the Bundesrat, explained Parliamentary Director Lutz Richter. Such legitimacy can only be assumed if the voting behavior in the Bundesrat is in line with the majority opinion in parliament.
BSW wants opinion-forming before voting in the Bundesrat
"From the point of view of the BSW parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament, the participation of the entire state parliament is also necessary when issues of extraordinary importance are negotiated in the Bundesrat," emphasized Richter. It was unacceptable for the state government to approve the debt package without securing a majority in the House. Without the involvement of parliament, the state government's vote in the Bundesrat could only be an abstention. Anything else would be a snub to the state parliament.
