BSW calls for fund for security at major events

The BSW believes that local authorities should not be left alone when it comes to security precautions for Christmas markets and other events. "Preventing terrorism is a state task - but the municipalities are left to bear the costs of implementing it. This is neither legally sound nor politically responsible," explained BSW politician Bernd Rudolph from Saxony. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance is therefore calling for a state fund for this purpose.

According to the legal situation, the responsibility for security measures lies with the municipalities. As organizers of markets and festivals, for example, they must draw up and implement a security concept. "Anyone who demands security must also co-finance it. The state government is now called upon to take responsibility - not just in words, but in concrete budget allocations," emphasized Rudolph. The BSW also called for the federal government to contribute to the costs of barrier systems, digital surveillance technology and emergency logistics.
