The rising number of asylum seekers is posing considerable problems for local authorities, says Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer.

The continuing rise in the number of asylum seekers is causing considerable problems for local authorities, according to Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer. "We can't get them housed anymore. They remain to a large extent in shared accommodation," said the CDU politician in an interview in the "Leipziger Volkszeitung" (Monday edition). There are no more free apartments, instead more tent cities.

Kretschmer expects that refugees will soon have to be housed in gymnasiums. "With tent cities it will go for a while, as long as it is not cold. But when winter comes, that's no longer an option."

When it comes to taking in refugees, Kretschmer again called for a figure to guide the process. This will have to be negotiated and the limit must be breathing, the prime minister stressed. "If it is reached, you have to use stricter rules. If it is not reached, one can be looser."
