The work of the forestry trainees at Sachsenforst has paid off: 1,400 kilograms of acorns will soon be used to grow new trees in Saxon Switzerland.

Forester trainees have harvested around 1,400 kilograms of acorn seeds in the Saxon Forest in Saxon Switzerland. According to the Saxon Switzerland National Park and Forestry Administration, the acorns are intended to contribute to forest conversion in the national park region. The proportion of sessile and pedunculate oaks has declined significantly in recent years. This is now set to change thanks to the collection campaign.

After harvesting, the acorns are now stored in boxes and will be sown in spring. The resulting trees are to be planted in selected forest stands from fall 2026. Christina Tscheuschner, Forest and Area Management Officer at the National Park and Forestry Administration of Sachsenforst, says: "The sessile oak does not bear abundant fruit every year. This is another reason why we are delighted with the successful seed harvest."
