Criticism of cafeteria food or surveys on the most popular teachers - there are virtually no limits to the topics of school newspapers. Schools are now being supported in launching their own formats.

The founding of school newspapers in Saxony is being supported by the Ministry of Culture. According to the ministry, schools can apply for start-up funding of up to 250 euros. A total of 3,000 euros is available. Applications can be submitted until June 30.

The money will be used to reimburse costs for technical equipment, printing or working materials such as paper, among other things. According to the ministry, all forms of school newspapers are eligible for funding, regardless of whether they are published in print or online. However, the prerequisite is that the project was first published in the current school year or will be published by the summer.

Minister of Education Conrad Clemens (CDU) called on pupils to start their own media projects. School newspapers are "democracy in action", said the minister.
