The second-chance education system is being used less and less in Saxony. As the State Statistical Office in Kamenz announced on Thursday, 1867 adults are studying at one of the ten corresponding schools in the state in the current school year - 4.1 percent fewer than in the previous school year. This means that the decline in pupil numbers has continued since 2006/2007.

According to the statistics, the number of pupils at all types of school has fallen. For example, the number of students at evening grammar schools, which lead to the Abitur while working, fell by 0.8 percent compared to the previous school year. At a college, 770 people were preparing for university entrance qualifications, 6 fewer than before. 744 young people were aiming for a Hauptschule or Realschule qualification at an evening secondary school - 70 fewer than in the same period last year.
