New rector wants to attract more students to Freiberg

The new Rector of TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Jutta Emes, wants to attract more students to the university during her time in office. "If it were better known what we do here, a lot of people would want to study here," said the scientist at the official inauguration of her new office. In order to achieve this goal, the development of a new marketing concept has already begun.

Further focal points include bundling the diverse expertise in the field of artificial intelligence in a hub and strengthening the European focus. "We are a cosmopolitan, international university - and at the same time anchored in Freiberg, in the region, here in Saxony," said Emes.

Emes first woman to head the TU

Emes is the first woman to head the Freiberg Mining Academy in its 260-year history. Emes previously held the professorship for Marketing and Media at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and succeeds Professor Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht, who led the technical university for ten years. She was elected as the new Rector by the extended Senate of the Bergakademie at the beginning of February. The term of office is five years.

The Bergakademie Freiberg is considered the oldest mining science university in the world. It was founded in 1765. It has been operating as a technical university since the early 1990s. It currently has almost 4,300 students.
