Third-party funding is very important for research. The Saxon universities have recently raised a little more money.

Saxon universities have increased their research funding and received a total of 616 million euros. This is according to the recently published funding atlas of the German Research Foundation (DFG), announced the Ministry of Science. The figures relate to the period from 2020 to 2022. From 2017 to 2019, the universities raised 600 million euros.

The figures show how strong the universities and universities of applied sciences are in terms of research, explained Minister Sebastian Gemkow (CDU). Saxony had achieved the best result among the eastern German federal states.

The TU Dresden raised 265 million euros across all faculties. The University of Leipzig raised a total of 153.4 million euros. TU Bergakademie Freiberg and TU Chemnitz scored particularly well in the engineering sciences, for which they received 29.3 and 21.5 million euros respectively. There were also a number of DFG approvals for the universities of applied sciences.
