Against austerity policies in education: trade unions plan education protests in Saxony.

Multiple trade unions have called for education protests in Saxony. The Saxon Teachers' Association (SLV) announced that the planned package of measures from the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs would result in serious setbacks for educational equality for future generations and for the working conditions of all employees in the education sector. Demonstrations are planned for May 14 in Zwickau and the following day in Dresden.

"Colleagues have long been working at their limits. The SMK's plans and the finance minister's austerity measures are further exacerbating the situation - to the detriment of teachers and at the expense of our children's future," emphasized SLV state chairman Michael Jung. He called for an education package for schools that includes relief for teachers, a class teacher hour, attractive offers for older teachers, the expansion of school assistance and more school social work.

For years, too little has been invested in education, said Daniela Kolbe, Deputy Head of the DGB. "In Sunday speeches, it is repeatedly announced that education will be strengthened and the shortcomings remedied. However, it has been clear since the presentation of the draft double budget at the latest: education has been massively affected by the austerity policy". Among other things, she called for five days of education time.
