The Bergakademie Freiberg is breaking new ground and will be offering cooperative studies from the winter semester onwards. The young people work in companies during their studies and are paid by them. On the one hand, this provides them with a secure income, and on the other, it allows the course to be more closely interlinked with practical experience, explained Professor Holger Lieberwirth. The first cooperation agreements were signed with two companies on Thursday.

In contrast to the dual study program at vocational academies, there are reportedly no fixed times for the phases in the company. The studies continue as before. The students agree individually with the company when they work there. They can also write their Master's thesis there. Initially, the cooperative study program will be offered in the field of processing machines and recycling systems technology. The aim is to expand this to other specialist areas, according to the university.

The model for the cooperative study program is Saarland. In addition to greater practical relevance, the aim is to tie young people more closely to the region and companies.
