The AfD parliamentary group also wants to propose the GDR moped Simson as intangible cultural heritage. "The Simson is not just a moped. It is a symbol of East German culture, of freedom, independence and youth," explained parliamentarian Mike Moncsek. He was always amazed at how many young people carried on this legacy from the GDR era. Especially in rural regions, the Simson still has cult status today.
