The ADAC Saxony is optimistic about the upcoming Ascension and Whitsun traffic in the Free State. Apart from the bottleneck between Dresden-Altstadt and the Nossen junction on the Autobahn 4 (Görlitz-Eisenach), traffic should be able to flow at Pentecost - at least on the long-distance routes, according to the German Automobile Club in Dresden.
Work on the Dresden-Nossen bottleneck will continue until the end of the year
Work on the approximately 20-kilometer stretch between Dresden-Altstadt and the Nossen junction will continue until the end of the year, it said. As the construction work in Wilsdruff should also be completed by Ascension Day, the bypass route between Nossen and Wilsdruff should be passable again without any major traffic jams.
"Ascension Day and Whitsun are classic excursion weekends that result in increased congestion on the routes in the tourist regions of our home country. Here too, construction work on our roads and bridges causes disruption and often requires time and patience on the part of travelers," ADAC travelers agreed.
Possible traffic jams on several federal highways
Possible traffic jams include the federal highways 171 in Marienberg (both directions), the 101 in Schwarzenberg, the 169 in Schneeberg and Gablenz, the 80 in Lugau / Erdmannsdorf, the 92 to the Thuringian border and the border crossing of the Autobahn 17 in Breitenau towards Prague.
The ADAC recommends traveling early in the morning or late in the evening if possible to avoid rush hour. Before setting off, drivers should check the latest traffic reports, plan alternative routes and use navigation services. "Take regular breaks on longer journeys and be patient," is another piece of advice.
