More than 4,700 employees in Saxony lost their jobs in the first half of 2025 due to insolvency proceedings at their companies. This is according to data from the Federal Statistical Office, which was requested by the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW). In the previous year as a whole, the figure was just over 6,300 employees - a significant increase compared to 2023 (5,500) and 2022 (2,300).
The bankruptcy vulture is circling over the German economy, said BSW leader Sahra Wagenknecht. The main cause of the wave of insolvencies and rising unemployment is the completely absurd economic policy of the German government. "Extremely high energy costs and rampant bureaucracy are strangling SMEs and leading to the deindustrialization of our country."
More and more companies are becoming insolvent
In the past four years, the number of corporate insolvencies in Bavaria has continued to rise. According to the State Statistical Office, 867 companies filed for insolvency in 2024. This is a significant increase on the previous year's level of 747 insolvency proceedings filed.
Businesses from the retail, transport and hospitality sectors were particularly affected last year, with a total of 275 insolvencies, as well as business services with 257 proceedings. The manufacturing industry also recorded a high number of insolvencies with 237 cases.
