The master craftsman bonus in Saxony has been increased to 3,000 euros. The cabinet decided that the regulation will apply retroactively as of January 1 of this year. All master craftsmen and women who complete their certification this year will thus benefit from the increase. The bonus is intended to help strengthen vocational training.
The master craftsman bonus was introduced in Saxony in 2016. Initially, new master craftsmen received a 1,000-euro grant. In early 2023, the bonus was increased to 2,000 euros. The skilled trades sector had long been pushing for an increase in the amount.
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 823 skilled tradespeople successfully completed their master craftsman’s examination last year. In addition, there were 750 industrial master craftsmen and 229 specialist master craftsmen certified by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).
