Saxon skilled trades increase turnover by 3.4 percent last year

The Saxon skilled trades sector recorded an increase in turnover last year. The healthcare, food and finishing trades in particular recorded strong growth.

Saxon trades increased their turnover by 3.4 percent last year. The health trade in particular recorded an increase in turnover (plus 6.6 percent), according to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz on Thursday. There was similarly strong growth in the food industry (plus 5.8 percent) and in the finishing trade (plus 5.7 percent). Electrical engineers, for example, saw an increase in turnover of 8.5 percent compared to the previous year, partly due to energy renovation projects.

In contrast, the main construction industry saw a 3.8 percent drop in turnover compared to 2022. Turnover in this sector fell to almost the same level as in 2020. The biggest year-on-year declines were recorded by carpenters (down 6.0%) and roofers (down 5.5%). Accordingly, turnover in the main construction sector fell in the fourth quarter in particular (down 8.3%). Turnover for bricklayers and concrete workers, for example, was 11.7 percent lower than in the same period last year. For carpenters, the drop in turnover compared to the same period last year was 7.0 per cent.

According to statistics, the number of employees in the trades subject to licensing fell by 2 per cent overall compared to the previous year - all trade groups were affected.
