Rejection of wind turbines is not uncommon. In the district of Zwickau, citizens should be able to participate financially in a project. Can this ensure greater acceptance?

Residents in the Zwickau district are to benefit financially from the new Reinsdorf/Mülsen wind farm. As announced by Sachsen Energie, people in Reinsdorf and Mülsen can participate in the project with sums starting at 500 euros. Interest is paid on the investment. A term of ten years is currently planned. The participation program should start in the summer.

"We are breaking new ground with this approach. However, we are certain that it is exactly the right way to promote acceptance and participation," explained Jens-Patric Hirtz, Head of the energy company's Naturkraft division. Together with the legally required distributions to the surrounding municipalities, Sachsen Energie expects annual payments of around 120,000 euros - depending on the yield of the wind farm.

From the summer, four wind turbines will be erected. According to the company, they can generate 60,000 megawatt hours of electricity per year. This is enough to power around 20,000 households.
