After the demolition of the bridge on the B101 in the south of Großenhain (district of Meißen), the new construction will begin this month. Construction will begin next Wednesday (August 27), said a spokeswoman for the Saxon State Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development. The MDR had previously reported. The work is set to continue until next fall.
A special inspection at the end of last year revealed that the structure could no longer be opened to traffic. The condition of the bridge, existing cracks and samples taken had shown that the load-bearing capacity was at risk, according to the State Office for Road Construction and Transport. The bridge had been closed since then and has since been demolished. Like the Carola Bridge in Dresden, which partially collapsed in September 2024, the structure was a prestressed concrete bridge with Hennigsdorf steel.
