September 19 is celebrated every year as Civil Courage Day. It is intended to encourage people to intervene in an emergency. In the district of Zwickau, two men put this into practice.

With their courageous intervention, two men in Mülsen (Zwickau district) put an end to the drunk driving of a 43-year-old man. The two men, aged 27 and 58, had noticed a car on the Bundesstraße 173 on Thursday that was speeding despite having a flat tire, according to the Zwickau police department. They then informed the officers. They blocked the car at a red light and pulled the driver, who appeared to be heavily intoxicated, out of the car to prevent him from continuing his journey and endangering others. A police patrol later carried out an alcohol test. The result was 2.96 per mille (breath alcohol).

The police pointed out that the two men intervened on the Day of Civil Courage, which has been held annually on September 19 since 2015. "The aim is to strengthen the sense of responsibility in the population so that people stand up for each other more and help and protect each other. Without knowing about this day, two citizens acted in the spirit of this symbol, so to speak," it said.
