L Leuchten Manufactur Wurzen will have to cease operations by the end of February. Despite an international search, it has not been possible to find an investor for the traditional company, announced insolvency administrator Christian Krönert. "The loss of this business means the disappearance of a rare craft know-how and a cultural technique of great regional and supra-regional value."
According to Krönert, the company is Germany's oldest lighting manufacturer. Its often handmade products hang in the Semper Opera House in Dresden, Bremen City Hall and Hundisburg Castle (Saxony-Anhalt) and Bad Muskau Castle (Saxony), among others.
Last interested parties bailed out
Preliminary insolvency proceedings have been underway in Wurzen since the end of last November. A significant decline in orders had been recorded for 2025. The aim of the proceedings was to find an investor so that the specialist company could continue to operate. However, the last two potentially interested parties withdrew at the end of January.
According to the insolvency administrator, the company last had eight employees. The first of them had already received their redundancy notices at the beginning of February.
In the coming weeks, the focus will be on securing the company's expertise, such as design data and production samples. Should an interested party still be found to join Leuchten Manufactur Wurzen, this is still possible, the insolvency administrator announced.
