Construction prices in Saxony were again slightly higher in August than in the previous year. The cost of residential buildings rose by 2.8 percent compared to August 2024, according to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz. The increase for shell constructions was 1.8 percent, while finishing work was 3.5 percent more expensive. Maintenance work on residential buildings was 3.4 percent more expensive.
According to the statisticians, piling, vibrating and pressing work was particularly affected by the cost increases in the area of shell construction. Here, construction prices rose by 9.2 percent. In the area of finishing work, the biggest increases were in insulation and fire protection work on technical installations (9.9 percent). In civil engineering, road construction (3.5 percent) and the construction of local sewers (3.5 percent) increased the most. The biggest drop in prices was in the area of elevator and escalator installations. Here, costs fell by 3.3 percent.
According to the State Statistical Office, construction costs for residential buildings in Saxony have risen by 39% since 2021. Costs in the other construction sectors have also risen by 30 to 40 percent since then. According to the Federal Statistical Office, this price development depends on many demographic and economic factors. For example, a growing population, a short supply of real estate and low interest rates have led to rising prices.
