Further investigations at the railroad bridge in Bad Schandau will lead to traffic disruptions on the 172 federal highway from Wednesday, the State Office for Road Construction and Transport has announced.
According to the announcement, drilling will take place south of the railroad tracks until August 11. One side of the B172 out of town in the direction of Königstein will be closed during the work. Drilling is then planned to the north of the tracks - in the area of the train station.
The work should be completed by the end of August and provide information for the further planning process for the bridges in Bad Schandau, according to the statement.
The railroad bridge had already been examined more closely in June. It is one of the prestressed concrete structures from the 1970s that the Free State is subjecting to special inspections following the partial collapse of Dresden's Carola Bridge. Structures that, like the Carola Bridge, were built using Hennigsdorf prestressing steel that was prone to stress cracking are being examined.
