The creative industries in Saxony are growing continuously in terms of sector turnover. According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the almost 10,000 companies will generate a turnover of around 4.8 billion euros in 2023. This represents average annual growth of 3.7 percent since 2015.

According to the Creative Industries Report 2024, around 81,000 people work in the sector. Almost 50,000 of these are employees subject to social security contributions, 21,000 are self-employed. There are also mini-jobbers.

Most employees work in the software and gaming sector

According to the report, 28% of the workforce in Saxony's creative industries work in the software and gaming industry. 15 percent work in arts and crafts and 10 percent in the design industry. The remaining sectors, such as advertising, the music industry and the book market, are in the single-digit percentage range.

The coronavirus pandemic has left its mark on the industry to this day. While there were still 10,738 companies in the creative industries in the pre-coronavirus year of 2019, the number fell to 9,521 one year later. According to the creative industries report, there were 9,812 companies in 2024 - still fewer than before coronavirus.
