Drivers can rejoice. A bottleneck in the upper Mulde valley is to be removed with the construction of a new bridge. Approval for the project has been granted.

A new bridge is to be built over the Freiberg Mulde near Mulda in the district of Central Saxony. The Saxony State Directorate has approved the construction of a new bridge on state road 209, as the authority announced. "Good news for the Mulde Valley: an annoying bottleneck in the upper course of the Freiberg Mulde can finally be eliminated," explained Regina Kraushaar, President of the State Directorate. The route between Freiberg and the Erzgebirgskamm will be faster and, above all, safer.

The existing bridge, which was probably built in 1890, reportedly has extensive damage and is therefore currently only passable in one lane, making it a bottleneck in the Mulde valley. The old bridge is to be replaced by a new one made of steel and concrete. Among other things, 31 trees are to be planted in Mulda to compensate for the impact on nature associated with the new construction.
