Train services between Dresden and Zittau are once again disrupted due to a dilapidated bridge. According to Deutsche Bahn, the section between Zittau and Ebersbach is affected. According to the city, defects were discovered on a bridge in the Zittau urban area during a routine inspection. Because a danger to rail traffic could not be ruled out, the track was subsequently closed to rail traffic on Thursday afternoon, according to city spokesman Kai Grebasch.
According to Deutsche Bahn's timetable information, buses are running on the RE2 line as rail replacement services. The RB61 line ends early in Ebersbach with immediate effect. Commuters and rail travelers must be prepared for delays and restrictions.
At present, it is unclear how long the track closure will last, according to Grebasch. As part of an on-site meeting on Friday morning, it will be clarified to what extent the bridge can be secured so that train traffic can continue until its unavoidable demolition. The structure is rather insignificant for road traffic and connects the Zittau urban area with an allotment garden site, Grebasch continued. There are already plans for an alternative connection.
Similar restrictions and disruptions had already occurred on the route in July. The reason for this at the time was a dilapidated bridge in Mittelherwigsdorf.
