The ADAC warns of considerable dangers posed by incorrectly parked trucks on Saxony's freeways. In a survey of 100 rest areas nationwide, almost half of the locations had trucks parked in high-risk areas such as entrances and exits or on the hard shoulder, the association reported. In Saxony, the results were particularly serious. More than 50 trucks were parked incorrectly at two service areas: 54 wrong parkers were counted at the Dresdner Tor Süd service area on the A4, and as many as 61 at the Muldental Süd service area on the A14.
According to the ADAC, it was noticeable that the service areas within the Leipzig-Dresden-Chemnitz triangle in particular were heavily overcrowded.
ADAC: Accelerate expansion and use space more efficiently
According to the data, there is still a shortage of around 20,000 parking spaces for trucks along the German freeways. According to the ADAC, this figure roughly corresponds to the analysis from five years ago. The association is calling for rest areas along freeways to be expanded more quickly and for existing spaces to be used more efficiently. To this end, more emphasis should be placed on digital information and reservation solutions, it said.
