A drunk cyclist in Zwickau must now expect consequences because he proved to be unteachable. According to the Zwickau police department, a citizen informed the situation center about the man yesterday evening. When the police arrived, the 47-year-old was lying in a bush. He claimed to be resting in the thicket. A test revealed a breath alcohol level of 1.72 per mille. However, the police were unable to prove that the man had actually been riding his bike.
He had been told several times that he would have to continue on foot with such an alcohol level, they said. A short time later, however, he was caught on his bike. The man faces criminal charges for drunk driving.
The ADAC repeatedly points out that it is not only car drivers who are liable to prosecution, but also cyclists. "Anyone on a bicycle with a blood alcohol concentration of 1.6 per mille or more is committing a criminal offense. You are then considered absolutely unfit to drive. But beware: even a blood alcohol level of 0.3 per mille can be punishable if there are also alcohol-related symptoms," says the ADAC website. You are then considered relatively unfit to drive. Signs of impairment can include driving in serpentine lines, falling or balance problems.
