343 craftsmen and women received their master craftsman's certificate in the Dresden chamber district this year. The largest group, with 41 new master craftsmen, are motor vehicle mechatronics technicians, followed by bakers (26), plumbers and heating engineers (25), interior decorators (24), carpenters (22) and orthopaedic shoemakers (20), as the Dresden Chamber of Crafts announced on Saturday. There was only one master craftsman's certificate each for a goldsmith and silversmith, a confectioner and a beautician. The youngest master craftsman of the class of 2023 is 19 years old, the oldest is already 60 years old.

It is largely thanks to the skilled trades that the Free State is developing so well economically, said Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) at the master craftsman ceremony in Dresden on Saturday. "Dual training is an essential basis for securing the demand for skilled workers and strengthening the spirit of innovation in Saxony."

In the Dresden chamber district, which includes the districts of Bautzen, Görlitz, Meißen, Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains and the state capital of Dresden, more than 19,500 tradespeople have successfully completed their master craftsman training since 1990.
