Tabita Berglund will become Principal Guest Conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra from the 2025/2026 season. According to the orchestra, the Norwegian will be "one of the most interesting young female conductors of our time", succeeding Singapore's Kahchun Wong. She is the first woman to hold this position. The 35-year-old, who only made her debut with the Dresden orchestra in November 2023, joins a prominent circle of former guests such as Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Juri Temirkanov, Bertrand de Billy and Markus Poschner.

Berglund, who is also a trained cellist, has already conducted a number of renowned orchestras in Europe and the USA and will be the new Principal Guest Conductor of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra from October 2024. She has "already attracted attention several times with new, convincing approaches to classical works and is certainly an asset to the Dresden Philharmonic and its audience", said the designated chief conductor Sir Donald Runnicles.
