Manuel Schöbel will remain director of the Landesbühnen Sachsen until 2030. The new contract begins on August 1, 2027 and will run for a further three years, the Ministry of Culture announced. Born in Dresden, Schöbel has held the post since 2011.
Under his artistic direction, the Landesbühnen have overcome the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic as well as the renovation and modernization of the Felsenbühne Rathen, praised Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch (CDU).
Schöbel has succeeded in regaining the trust of audiences outside of the traditional venues in Radebeul and Rathen and returning attendance figures to pre-coronavirus levels. He has also successfully established the "Junges.Studio" department, which brings productions and educational theater offerings to kindergartens and classrooms.
The Landesbühnen Sachsen is a multi-genre theater with more than 240 permanent employees. They produce more than 20 premieres per season and stage over 600 performances.
