Whether it's a candle arch, Steigerlied or Saxon bread - the Free State of Saxony showcases its diverse culture and craftsmanship in Japan.

Saxony will be presenting itself at Expo 2025 in Osaka next Wednesday with a country day. In the German pavilion, the Free State will present a stage program of culture, music, culinary delights and handicrafts, as announced by the State Chancellery.

Music, bread and handicrafts from the Free State

Under the motto "Music unites - tradition obliges", an ensemble of the Saxonia Freiberg Mining Music Corps will perform the world-famous "Steigerlied", among other things. Visitors to the world exhibition can taste Saxon bread and gain an insight into porcelain painting and watchmaking in Glashütte.

The arts and crafts of the Erzgebirge will bring a pre-Christmas atmosphere to Japan with candle arches, smokers, nutcrackers and pyramids. Elector Augustus the Strong - portrayed by actor Steffen Urban - is also part of the program.

Kretschmer: "Enormous opportunities"

Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) will visit the country day as part of his East Asia trip to Taiwan, Japan and Singapore. "The international appeal of Expo 2025 is remarkable," he said. "We have enormous opportunities here to present ourselves to an international audience as an innovative and strong business location and at the same time as an attractive travel destination."

More than 160 countries, regions and international organizations are taking part in the Expo, which has the motto "Designing Future Society for Our Lives". The focus is on sustainability and climate protection. The organizers are expecting around 28 million visitors by 13 October. It is already the second Expo in Osaka. In 1970, the Japanese city was the first host of a World Expo in Asia.
