The Day of the Open Monument makes this year more than 900 historical places in Saxony accessible - from castles and parks to churches and factory buildings to homes and archaeological sites. On the coming Sunday also otherwise closed buildings open, as the regional development ministry announced on Tuesday. At the nationwide kick-off, this time at Wolkenburg Castle in Limbach-Oberfrohna (Zwickau district), schools will be honored for the 12th time with the Saxon Children's and Youth Monument Award, which are exemplary for cultural monuments and the monument preservation idea.

The Open Monument Day initiated by the German Foundation for Monument Protection celebrates its 30th anniversary nationwide in 2023. Under the motto "Talent Monument," Germany's largest cultural event will this time spotlight exciting objects, dedicated owners, restorers and craftsmen, full-time and volunteer monument conservators, as well as associations and initiatives committed to cultural heritage.
