A year ago, the dramatic Ferris wheel fire overshadowed Highfield near Leipzig - now Saxony's biggest rock and pop festival is going into the next round. The programme will follow the proven concept, and this year there will also be a particularly extensive programme on the Beach Stage directly on the lake, the organizer Scorpio announced on request. Around 28,000 guests are expected at Lake Störmthal from this Friday to Sunday.
The ingredients for the festival are clearly defined: Three days of partying, listening to your favorite artists and relaxing by the lake. This year's top acts on the program include Deichkind, K.I.Z, Clueso, Electric Callboy and Nina Chuba. But the special thing about Highfield is its location by the lake. The festival has its own beach with a stage. Visitors can swim here during the day or recharge their batteries with yoga or aqua fitness.
16 injured in 2024 fire
The previous year, the Highfield Festival was overshadowed by a fire on the Ferris wheel. Two gondolas burnt out and 16 people were injured, some of them seriously. Investigations into negligent bodily harm and negligent arson are ongoing.
According to an initial assessment, material underneath the Ferris wheel had caught fire. The organizers announced that there will also be a Ferris wheel on the site this year. Scorpio spokesperson Jonas Rohde said that last year's incident had been thoroughly analyzed with the responsible security authorities afterwards.
The festival pass for the whole weekend costs around 190 euros, day tickets are available for 99 euros. Many festival-goers arrive on Thursday and take over the campsite. If you like and have a slightly higher budget, you can also book an already pitched tent or comfortable accommodation in a resort.
The weather is also likely to provide that summer feeling. According to the German Weather Service, there will be plenty of sunshine and temperatures of up to 34 degrees on all three days of the festival.
