The Puppentheater Zwickau has a new director for the new season. With director and artistic director Christine Schmidle as well as the new dramaturge and artistic director Alexej Vancl, the theater is starting the new season, as announced by the theater's managing director.
Lots of experience for new impulses
The Shakespeare expert Schmidle brings international experience and a clear artistic view to Zwickau. As a director, actress and text consultant, she has been involved in numerous international productions. With his many years of experience in the field of contemporary and classical puppet theater, Alexej Vancl will provide new impetus for the repertoire design, it was said.
Classics on the program
The new season begins on 31 August with an opening spectacle. Visitors can look forward to a varied afternoon with insights into upcoming productions, encounters with artists and hands-on activities for the whole family under the theme "Element of Water". Highlights of the new season for puppet theater guests include "The Frog Prince" and the premiere of "The Little We". Finally, there will be the premiere of "The Wave", a gripping production of the classic children's book.
A council record from 1561 shows that puppetry was already being performed in Zwickau in the middle of the 15th century. In 1717, the first known puppeteer made a guest appearance at the Zwickau Gewandhaus. At the beginning of the 19th century, various venues in and around Zwickau were already being used.
